Multiphase Interaction Models in STAR-CCM+®: Which, When, Why, How?

STAR-CCM+ offers a wide choice in modeling multiphase flows. Simulation of multiphase flows using the Eulerian Multiphase models in STAR-CCM+ needs careful consideration of mesh, chosen models and phase interactions. In this presentation, we will investigate the model choices and suitability for modeling various flow regimes. Phase interactions such as turbulence dispersion, lift, drag, bubble induced turbulence and their effect on results will be also presented. Mesh resolution and choice can also affect the speed and accuracy of simulations. A study comparing mesh types will help identify those effects. These examples will help establish some of the best practices in modeling of multiphase flows. Finally a short review of new multiphase interactions planned for 2015 will be presented.
