Safety First: Making Safer Designs Through CFD Simulation at Atkins Oil & Gas
Tuesday, April 29, 2014

If you are involved in the design and safety of offshore or onshore facilities (LNG, FLNG, drilling and production platforms, refineries), CD-adapco™ is holding an educational webcast for you.

Safety is of paramount importance to both designers and operators of onshore and offshore facilities. As part of a risk-based approach, CFD is routinely used to predictively understand the consequences of any hydrocarbon leak and possibly its subsequent explosion and/or fire, to guide the design decisions.

Atkins’ Ian Cowan discusses how they help their clients to design and operate safety facilities. Areas covered include:

  • Gas dispersion and gas cloud build-up
  • Blast modeling
  • Pool & jet fires
  • Smoke modeling

About the Presenter: Dr. Ian Cowan, Chief Engineer
Educated at the University of Cambridge, UK in Mechanical Engineering, Ian has over 19 years of industrial experience in the use of simulation aiding design in the Oil & Gas, Nuclear and Built Environment industries. He has particular experience in CFD, consequence modeling, gas dispersion, fire and blast modeling, LNG, and FLNG.
