Upfront CAE studies performed as early as possible within the design and development process are required for thorough design explorations and formal optimizations. 

In this presentation, a novel approach is presented in which STAR-CCM+ is coupled with CAESES and an automated shape optimization is performed. The case study is that of a top entry mixer which is typically used in the process and chemical industries. The coupling of the softwares along with the process chain is elaborated and the resulting mixer shapes are compared to standard designs used in industry today.
