Keeping it Real is the Focus of CD-adapco STAR-CCM+ v9.06 Release

STAR-CCM+® v9.06 breaks new ground in biomedical devices, aeroacoustics, chemical processes and many other sophisticated modeling applications.

New York and London. October 29, 2014

CD-adapco™, the largest privately held CFD focused provider of Computer Aided Engineering software, today announced the release of STAR-CCM+ v9.06. The new release allows engineers to get simulations closer to the final product by accounting for factors that are likely to significantly influence the performance of a design in operation. Throughput improvements make this level of accuracy a practical reality.

“We want our customers to have confidence and certainty in their simulations. This is fundamentally based on how close we can simulate the real performance of the final product and produce accurate results,” said Senior VP of Product Management, Jean-Claude Ercolanelli. “This continued focus on realism and accuracy has allowed customers to break new ground in critical simulation work in many areas like biomedical devices, aeroacoustics, soiling and water managementexcavation, or turbulent mixing of specialty chemical products.”

Accuracy, Realism, and Throughput are the pillars of the v9.06 release:

Accuracy: The new Acoustic Wave Equation Solver accurately predicts the propagation of acoustic waves generated by the near field CFD solution. By separating the acoustic signal from the flow field it is captured more accurately.

The new 3rd order convection scheme, MUSCL provides a higher accuracy in applications like shock waves, wakes, vortices and propagating sound waves by minimizing the numerical dissipation.

Realism: Partial wrapping and extended overset mesh capabilities deliver a new level of realism in modeling more detailed systems and sophisticated motions.

Partial wrapping allows STAR-CCM+ users to selectively apply the surface wrapper, a core strength product, to regions of the geometry while retaining complete fidelity of the other parts. Read More…

Gap handling for Overset Mesh removes the limitation of efficiently modeling contact between moving bodies and parts. Read more on the new "Zero Gap” Interface.

Overset Mesh and DEM (Discrete Element Modeling) can now be combined and used to solve a new range of applications like excavation for mining, drilling in oil and gas area, production line processes and tableting in the pharmaceutical industry. 

Throughput:
 Enhancements to the user workflow include faster setup and a new level of design exploration performance not yet seen. The new interactive tool for creation of morpher control points to drive mesh deformation and enables adjoint based shape optimization cases to be easily setup.

A new unsteady solver, PISO is computationally more efficient for certain classes of problems and is now available as an alternative to SIMPLE.

“These final new features allow us to deliver on the goal of STAR-CCM+ v9 series that has been focused on accurately simulating large and sophisticated models more easily, faster and in the shortest amount of time,” said Ercolanelli. “We are setting the stage for our next level of development in versions 10.0x which are due out in February, June and October 2015. These releases will take simulation to a new level of understanding.”
