Using STAR-CCM+ for Catalyst Utilization Analysis
Due to increasingly stringent emissions requirements, 3D CFD has been used extensively at Ford for the development of exhaust and after treatment systems, for example to assess the catalyst utilization. In order to maintain the quality of the analysis which could be carried out by CAE teams inside and outside the company, we have developed a unique CAE procedure which standardizes the ways to perform the analysis, post-processing and presentation. This presentation describes how we upgraded this procedure from STAR-CD to STAR-CCM+ standard.

Today’s best steam cycle power plants have a net plant efficiency of 46% while the average efficiency value for such power plants worldwide is still around 30%.
